Yoga
The yoga at Yavanna takes place
on a purpose built platform set in the beautiful and tranquil
surroundings of the Yavanna gardens. It is an ideal place to
completely unwind and connect with a sense of peace and harmony.
There will be two practices a day,
a more energetic early morning practice designed to stretch and
open up the body and to release any physical or mental tension
and a more relaxing, meditative session in the late afternoon.
This will leave plenty of free time
for you to relax by the pool or explore this beautiful part of
Portugal. A number of excursions will be offered.
Because the group will be
relatively small, your teacher, Maria, will be able to customise
classes to suit the needs of the group. She is happy to take
complete beginners as well as more experienced practitioners.
You will have the opportunity both to deepen your understanding
of the yoga postures and to work deeply with your breath, so to
develop your strength and flexibility and to trigger a self
healing process that will awaken an inner spirit all too often
neglected in our hectic daily life.
Maria Zervudachi - Yoga Teacher
Maria has been practicing yoga for
over twenty years. From a background in Sivenanda and Hatha she
moved towards Iyengar yoga sixteen years ago and completed her
training in 2002. She has worked with some of the top Indian
teachers, including Geeta Iyengar. She is a passionate and
committed yoga teacher, completely dedicated to her yoga
practice and unable now to imagine life without it..."it is on
my yoga mat that I feel I can truly find myself". Maria's good
humoured way of stretching and relaxing in Iyengar Yoga will
help to make your holiday a real joy.
She is a skilled and sensitive
teacher and has been teaching weekly classes and small groups in
Kent and East Sussex for five years. She specialises in small
group work and this is her second time at Yavanna. She feels
privileged to teach in such a special place, where the
combination of an enriching daily yoga practice, delicious food,
total relaxation and pampering - as well as the
opportunity to enjoy the company of new friends, fun and
laughter - cannot help but to make you feel good .
She is also a practising sculptural ceramicist (see

for examples of her work.
